Hugh Farrell will present on his text Strategy of Composition, which draws from Italian Marxism and contemporary land struggles to think practically about the logic of contemporary political organization. The concept of “composition” names the specific play of unity and difference, nearness and distance, observable in struggles like Stop Cop City, where the common attachment to a particular place makes it possible for different partisan wagers and investments to reciprocally reinforce and support one another in what some call an “ecology” rather than a “diversity of tactics.” The presentation will conclude with some implications of this strategic orientation for ongoing attempts to organize in the present.
